DJ Avicii (28) passed away
Avicii, one of the world's most famous DJs, has died, his agent announced. The artist's body was found today in Muscat, the capital of Oman.
Further details have not yet been released. Avicii is the stage name of Swedish-born Tim Bergling. "The family is devastated and we ask everyone to respect their privacy during this difficult time," his agent said.
Bergling was born on September 8, 1989, in Stockholm. He learned the tricks of the trade on fellow DJ Laidback Luke's forum. As Avicii, he signed his first record label contract in 2007. He achieved international success in 2011 with the song "Levels." In the Netherlands, the DJ is known for hits like "Wake Me Up" and "Hey Brother."
The DJ's health problems have been widely reported in the media in recent years. In 2014, he was forced to cancel his entire tour as a result. In 2016, Avicii stopped performing altogether. In an interview with Billboard, he later said he made the decision primarily for his health. He suffered from, among other things, acute pancreatitis caused by his excessive drinking. "The whole dance world is not for me. It's really not the music or the shows, but everything around it," he concluded at the time.
