Jack Johnson – (2008) Sleep Through The Static

Jack Johnson grew up on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. His father is the famous surfer Jeff Johnson. When Jack was 5 years old, he started surfing, just like his father. His career as a professional surfer was going well. However, when Johnson was 17, he had a surfing accident in which he broke his nose and sustained multiple injuries. He had to give up surfing, and during his rehabilitation, Johnson increasingly focused on music. He studied film at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and started writing songs around that time. He had been playing guitar since he was 14, but even then, he still prioritized surfing over music. In 1999, Johnson contributed to G. Love & Special Sauce's album "Philadelphia." "Rodeo Clowns" would become Johnson's first single with the group. In 2001, he released his first solo album, "Brushfire Fairytales," which was not released in the Netherlands.

After this album, he released two surf films: September Sessions and Thicker than Water. Afterward, he returned to music and released the successful album On and On in 2003. In March 2005, he released the album In Between Dreams, which marked his definitive breakthrough. Shortly after, Johnson released another album: Sing-A-Long Songs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George, which also serves as the soundtrack for the film Curious George. This CD was released on February 10, 2006, and on February 15, he received the Brit Award for Best International Newcomer. He has since surpassed his close friend Ben Harper, for whom he opened for many years, in popularity.

In the first week of February 2008, the album Sleep Through the Static was released. "If I Had Eyes," the first single from the CD, was available for free listening on the website of his record label, Brushfire Records.
