In 1986, the band broke new ground by bringing their reggae vibes to Russia, becoming the first Western group to tour the Soviet Union. In August of that year, "Rat In The Kitchen" became UB40's sixth Top 10 album in the UK. The title track became the album's first hit. Another song, "Sing Our Own Song," was written in support of Black artists in South Africa during apartheid.
In Britain, UB40 were huge stars, and this album marked their sixth Top Ten hit, featuring the singles "Sing Your Own Song," "All I Want to Do," and "Rat in Mi Kitchen." In the US, the group remained a rising star with a modest following, but they only managed to score a hit by covering an earlier hit, like "I Got You, Babe." Rat in the Kitchen didn't change that, although it was, as usual, a melodic collection of reggae.
