Pink Floyd has had a major influence on the development of psychedelic rock music through their many experimental albums over the years. After a period with their first lead singer and guitarist Syd Barrett, David Gilmour joined the band in 1967 and took over Syd's role in 1968. This ultimately led to their transformation into one of the most successful bands in progressive and symphonic music history. In 1973, the highly successful album "The Dark Side of the Moon" was released, which became one of the best-selling albums in the world. The album is characterized by various musical experiments using synthesizers, guitars, and added effects.

The album opens with the signature heartbeat of "Speak to Me," which then transitions into "Breathe." The musical techniques and symphonic sounds are clearly audible, and David immediately opens with his beautifully echoing voice. The instrumental "On the Run" is a psychedelic rollercoaster ride that beautifully showcases the experimental sounds. You can hear the sounds Pink Floyd developed on synthesizer, after which the song continues with the chimes of "Time," brilliantly crafted by Alan Parsons. This marks the beginning of a lengthy intro that gently builds to the lyrics sung by Gilmour and Wright. The mix of guitar, drums, and effects develops inimitably throughout the song. David Gilmour's guitar playing and solos are top-notch, propelling the song to great heights.

Ticking away the moments
That make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours
In an off-hand way

Kicking around on a piece of ground
In your home town
Waiting for someone or something
To show you the way

"The Great Gig in the Sky" opens peacefully, with the piano playing superbly complemented by Clare Torry's ethereal voice, giving the song a beautiful development. As soon as you open the cash register drawers at the beginning of "Money," you immediately know what the song is about, and it's a clever choice. The song has more of a pop feel and was therefore rightly released as a single. It was clear that Pink Floyd also needed the commercial success of a single to boost their album's popularity. This doesn't diminish the song's strength, as its structure is excellent, with various instrumental sections and Roger Waters' lyrics. The organ provides the tranquil intro to "Us and Them," with Nick Mason's drums slowly emerging. The saxophone adds a special touch to the vocals and the powerful lyrics. Towards the end, the instruments become increasingly intense, and the volume swells, returning to Gilmour's vocals.

Us and Them
And after all we're only ordinary men
Me, and you
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do
Forward he cried from the rear
and the front rank died
And the General sat, as the lines on the map
moved from side to side

The instrumental "Any Colour You Like" forms the transition from "Us and Them" to "Brain Damage." A well-developed experimental session, Waters's voice brilliantly delivers the short "Brain Damage," which features "The Dark Side of the Moon." The album classic concludes with a bang with "Eclipse," an extension of "Brain Damage," and concludes with the heartbeat of the album's opening.

The Dark Side of the Moon has rightly become one of the best-selling albums. With its experimental and symphonic sounds, Pink Floyd were far ahead of their time and created an album that forms a cohesive whole. The songs flow beautifully, and both the instrumentals and the fantastic lyrics represent a highlight in music history.
