Swiss artist Melodiesinfonie may have an eclectic range of influences, but his music has a common thread of soft, soulful vibes and impeccable taste. The Zurich-based beatmaker, AKA Kevin Wettstein, is back with a new single titled “Shabur,” which serves as the first cut from his fourth full-length album titled Muar. The dreamy track features Tel Aviv artist DORJ, who delivers some delightfully melancholic vocals that sound right at home within Melodiesinfonie’s lush and haunting sonic aesthetic.
“Shabur” not only showcases Melodiesinfonie’s skilled production skills, but also his ability to marry his beats with thematic content. The pairing with DORJ is remarkably successful, as the two clearly share musical sensibilities. Melodiesinfonie’s slow-moving, introspective sounds provide a fitting base for DORJ’s resonant words about longing for a bygone romance that has slipped away. While it’s easy to get lost in the soothing mood of the vocals and production, Melodiesinfonie provides enough accents in the guitar, bass, and flute arrangement to keep the audience engaged and remind us of the human element through it all. “Shabur” is a strong track in Melodiesinfonie’s catalog, and offers an exciting preview of the upcoming album with DORJ.
