A true soul record. The album has an unmissable Philly sound. I received this album from my oldest brother, Rob, who was a true soul man. The album features many extended instrumental passages that further emphasize the unmistakable Philly sound. "Be Thankful For What You Got" primarily features songs with a religious feel.

It's a terrible shame that such a modest, good guy as William DeVaughn never achieved any success. Luckily for him, the title track, which he wrote himself, is known as an underground classic in the soul genre, and in my opinion, that's absolutely deserved.
It's not just the lyrics that suggest appropriate modesty. Even William's vocals are modest. As if that weren't enough, even the instrumentation is modest. Whether you hear minimalist funk or minimalist soul, it always remains modest. And precisely because of that modesty (I hope I've used the word often enough now), William deserves to be played on your set.
